So, as you all know, we recently came back from our STN trip in Florida! It was tough up there in the competitions because there were more people at the convention this year than ever! I competed in the Movie Trailer Competition for the first time, and our team didn't win any awards, but we had fun! For any of those who would like to be in the Movie trailer competition next year, I have some advice for you. One thing you must always remember is creativity. Also, you must remember that you all are a team, and that nobody gets left out! Lastly, you need to learn to work hard and use all the time you are given to create the best job!
First off, be creative, be original, and try to come up with the best idea, even if it means throwing out other ideas... What you want to go for is the best possible story you can think of. Some ideas may not be the best, but you do what you gotta do. Try to have ideas that will be real, meaning it's actually something you can do. Once you have your idea, you want to make sure that the idea is one that you can stick to, and won't need to be changed later on... Make sure that the idea is also one that all of your team members agree on, which leads me to my second piece of advice...
Another thing you guys should know is that we are all part of a team. Sure, we may go through some rough waters, but in the end, we need to learn from our mistakes. Try not to drown yourself in a disagreement because that will take up a lot of your time during the competition... Even if you don't like someone from your group, you still have to be part of the team. Just leave them alone, because if you don't bother them, they won't bother you (pretty much). Make sure that you include everyone from the team so that no one is left out with nothing to do... This quote was sure said a lot of times last STN trip as a reminder that we are all a family: "Ohana means 'family' and family means nobody gets left behind..." (Lilo and Stitch)
Lastly, when it's competition time, that means that this is not a practice. You've had those practices already and you've had your fun, but now it's work time. Sure, you can have some fun in the process, but don't get too carried away. Otherwise, a lot of your production/editing time will be lost. You need to work hard to get the job done! If you do, you will make not only yourself proud, but everyone else as well. trust me, it's a lot easier when you're focused.
Those were my three pieces of advice that I wanted to share with you because I thought those were most important to me and my team. I believe that if you stick with what I told you, you will be successful. Let's say if your team was always fighting...you wouldn't get anywhere. If you keep changing your idea, you won't get anywhere either. Also, if you don't have an original/creative story/idea, you will probably have a lower chance on placing... I wish all of you the best of luck next year in STN! The Movie Trailer competition is great, as long as you can create a good story (that's what we had trouble on). With that being said, I hope you all take my advice seriously, and see you
