A while ago, we had STN Practice! This was our first practice of the year! Since I was in in a category similar to this one, meaning, you have the same idea where you need to be creative and all, I kind of knew what to expect. Although, I was a little late to practice, so I wasn't there when they thought of the idea. Our topic was The Champ, so that's what our title of the movie had to be. I did take a long time to find my group when I got there because from where I was looking, they were out of sight. There were some things I learned about myself, my group and the movie trailer category.
First off, what I learned about myself is that I am now an actress for our group, as well as one of the editors. When I got there, I had no idea what was going on, so I guess they assigned me as an editor and actress. I found out that I am a good planner. By that, I mean that I am good at planning out how things are going to work, be shot, who's who, etc. See, when I found my group, I asked them some questions about what the story was about. They said it was about a guy who wins the boxing match. That's quite bland. I told them that they should've took some time to figure out everything before going out to film. So, I stood in the outdoor court and gave them all kinds of ideas, and we brainstormed. Finally, we had the whole thing planned out. I also found out that I am a good shot composer. Mr. M commented on the some shots in the film that he liked, which were mines - I decided we needed some different angles, so I showed our filmed what I meant. So, I was pretty stoked!
There were some things that I learned about my team. First of all, there are six people on our team in total. There's me, Micah, Alaysia, Taylynn, Ysabel, and Ben Murray. So, Micah and I are the only returnees. To be honest, I don't know where my team would've gone with this whole thing if I showed up later. They didn't have anything set up, except for the idea of a boxer winning a match. It was almost as if I were the director of our group, which is not a bad thing, considering I am the oldest one. But, I felt like my team learned a lot from this past practice. Next time, I now to sit with my whole group and plan the whole thing out before rushing out to film. There was maybe one person that didn't really have much to do though, most of the time. So, it is kind of difficult to have such big crew. We all get along pretty well though, I mean, when I was there, they listened to me at least, so that was good. Nobody fought about anything. There were a few complaints about people not wanting to redo the scene again because "it was too hot". Other than that, it was pretty good.
Lastly… Our category. I actually really like this category, I mean, it's pretty fun. I like the idea of being able to create your own story, but based on a topic. I just love using my imagination to create a movie trailer that wold be interesting to others. But, you can't get too caught up in making the story because you're goal is to leave suspicion in the crowd so that they want to watch it. I remember making a movie trailer in X-Block, and I gave away too much of the story… Now I know that I can't do that, and even more os, we are working with people from all around the country in STN, so we really need to make it good. So, we've got six hours total to make our whole trailer. Three hours fro filming and coming up with an idea, and three hours for editing. This is I believe a one minute video, so it shouldn't take too long to edit, which gives us time to make revisions (hopefully). I really did enjoy this category!
STN will come up sooner than we realize, so my team and I need to step it up and work our butts off at practice, and at STN! This previous practice was pretty good/okay for our first try. Next practice, we will improve on coming up with our idea FIRST, and then going out to film. We need to make sure that we have enough b-roll, otherwise, we can't go back out and shoot once we're in the editing room!!! I hope that everyone continues to get along with each other all the way through STN! Every practice we have, we are just getting closer and closer to the REAL COMPETITION!!!!!
